Psychology of the Republican Party

America has returned to the early 1800's

PSYCHOLOGY OF THE REPUBLICAN PARTY

The mental health of the most leadership and legislative members in the Republican Party is unhealthy. The disclaimer notes that any association of a person with a mental issue have not been evaluated in person with a history and physical. A psychiatric evaluation or a neuropsychology evaluation by a psychologist or psychiatrist has not been done. Any suggestion of a mental disorder is based on observation of personalities and behavior. For example, I did a third-year medical student rotation in psychiatry at the State Psychiatric Hospital in Philadelphia. I was making rounds with the staff psychiatrist, and was able to first hand observe and acknowledge common factors between patients
I also worked in a psychiatric ward in a hospital and made diagnosis in clinical practice.

When the Republican Party was founded in 1854 there was a strong relationship between some of the more fundamentalist Northeastern Protestant religion and the Republican Party. This showed strong moral standards in the Republicans. The early Republican Party also had a strong connection with business and the pursuit of a free economic market. The party grew stronger with business owners, while the Democrat’s strength was with the employees.

With Abraham Lincoln in charge, there were strong moral values, respect, dignity, and equality. There was honesty, and in fact he, Abraham Lincoln, was called Honest Abe. The Republicans believed in social and racial justice, ergo Civil War. There was respect for honesty, honest Abe, and intellect. Much of this also grew out of classic liberalism by John Locke and Thomas Jefferson-true intellectuals. One could call this the Party of Lincoln.

The Republican Party started drifting toward conservatism and evangelism (con-artistry) to gain power and wealth. Republican evangelists made a lot of money with their religious rallies of fear, exempt from taxes because of religion’s exemptions. This pulled many Americans into the fold of Republican Party. Ethicists would say it is unethical to play on people’s fears to swindle them out of money. A segment of evangelicals moved to the right and far-right and in the process became more politically involved in government to inject their religious agenda into laws. They did not take into account other Americans have different moral and ethical values. Their strict judgmental beliefs caused dislike and even to the extent of hatred toward other people’s moral and ethical values. This can lead to a significant divide when there is no room for acceptance, which is God’s teachings. When there is no separation of church and state, there is no democracy.

As businesspeople became wealthy, they also became greedier. Greed frequently leads to corruption.

REPUBLICAN CORRUPTION (See Sociopathic Behavior below)

A number of American politicians have been convicted of crimes as they held office in the federal government of the United States. A list has been compiled, that lists Republicans and Democrats who have committed crimes while working in the executive, legislative and judicial branches of government. These crime only took place while in office, and does not include any prior or subsequent crimes committed by the individual.
The crimes committed most frequently are bribes, but also include fraud, blackmail, forgery, tax evasion, conspiracy, and others.

DEFINITIONS:

Bribe- Dishonestly persuade (someone) to act in one’s favor by a gift of money or other inducement.

Blackmail- The action, treated as a criminal offence, of demanding payment or another benefit from someone in return for not revealing compromising or damaging information about them.

Conspiracy- A secret plan by a group to do something unlawful or harmful.

Fraud-1. Wrongful or criminal deception intended to result in financial or personal gain. 2. A person or thing intended to deceive others, typically by unjustifiably claiming or being credited with accomplishments or qualities.

Forgery- the action of forging or producing a copy of a document, signature, banknote, or work of art.

Sociopathic Personalities-persons who are narcissistic, manipulative, dishonest, lack very little empathy, disregard laws and are white-collar crimes. Also, considered con-artists.

Everyone says politicians are crooked. Over the past 144 years, there have been twice as many criminal charges for Republican politicians than for Democrats. There have been a total of 103 Republican crimes versus 54 Democratic politicians who committed crimes. Most of the crimes have been in the legislative branch. The most convictions in the Executive branch was during President Nixon’s administration.

A dominant feature of corruption is dishonesty. This is found in sociopathic personality disorder. Other features include grandiosity; some empathy; weak conscience; erratic regard for the law; anger; like-minded with similar personalities; erratic behavior; and if they commit a crime, it is a white-collar crime. Without providing names, there are several Republican who fit these signs and symptoms.

BEHAVIOR OF REPUBLICAN MEMBERS OF CONGRESS

Opposition Defiant Disorder, Sociopathy and Psychopathy

Oppositional defiant disorder (ODD) occurs in children below the age of 8. The symptoms include anger towards others, especially adults; defiance and argumentative and refuses to comply; and vindictive, seeking revenge. I have witnessed this behavior in adults, which I like to call adult ODD. I first witnessed this behavior when the Republicans shutdown the government on November 23, 1981, placing 240,000 federal employees on furlough. This showed opposition and defiance. The other three shutdowns were also by Republicans, angrily showing their defiance and vindictive behavior. This has continued and got worse with Mitch McConnell. There is an undertone of anger toward Democrats displayed by angry outbursts. There is complete defiance with the obstruction of any good bill that the Democrats want to pass that would be helpful to the American people and to the environment. It appears that the adults in the room are the Democrats. Vicious slurs are frequently made toward the Democrats, and much of this is also facilitated by FOX Cable News.

There are so many examples of adult opposition defiant disorder in Republicans. Just about everything Mitch McConnell says reflects oppositional defiance disorder. Forty-seven Republicans at the Senate vote for Justice Jackson defiantly walked out with thumbs down. Kevin McCarthy said that when the Republicans take over the house, they will impeach President Biden! For what! Please God, do not let the Republicans take over the House or Senate until they grow up! Thank you Mitt Romney. Where is John McCain when we need him again?

SOCIOPATHY AND PSYCHOPATHY in the REPUBLICAN PARTY

Pathological lying and dishonesty reached an all-time high under the Trump administration.
This trait is a red flag for sociopathic and psychopathic personality disorders. The 5th Edition of the Diagnostic and Statistical Manual (DSM-5) of mental health incorporates psychopathy and sociopathy into antisocial personality disorder. DSM-5 is the standard classification of mental disorders used by mental health professionals in the United States. The author has separated antisocial personality disorder into sociopathy and psychopathy based on additional traits and genetics.

The DSM-5 listed seven traits for antisocial personality disorder (ASPD), of which three traits would suggest or indicate the disorder. The author has listed 10 basic signs and symptoms that differentiate
The present DSM-5 in general defines antisocial personality as a person having 3 or more of the following traits:
Constantly, pathologically lies and deceives others
Impulsive and lacks the ability to plan ahead
Proclivity to fighting and aggressiveness
Lacks regard for the safety of others
Irresponsible, cannot meet financial obligations
Lacks empathy and feels no remorse or guilt
No respect for laws, frequently breaks, or flouts the law
We have modified the DSM-5 list and added more traits. These are listed below in table format. This is also found in the book by Dr. Brubaker called Psychosocial Political Dysfunction of the Republican Party.
However, with more thought, there may be a spectrum between the disorders. One feature may be dominate over the rest such as narcissism to be termed narcissistic psychopathy noted in a previous president.

SIGNS & SYMPTOMS SOCIOPATH PSYCHOPATH

1-Narcissism Grandiose, Self-Possessed Not prominent
2-Lies Pathological liar Less apparent, but pathological
3-Manipulation Mild to Moderate Severe, Extensive
4-Empathy Very little; some None
5-Cognition Weak Conscience No Conscience
6-Criminal Activity More Risk-White Collar Minimize Risk-Serial Killers
7-Regard for Laws Erratic Disregard
8-Behavior Impulsive, erratic, rage-prone Appears level-headed
9-Emotions Anger Lack emotions & Guilt
10-Social Interaction Like-minded person interaction Unattached, but Charming
Etiology Childhood Trauma &/or genetic Genetic
Table copied from the book: Psychosocial Political Dysfunction of The Republican Party.

We would propose the term sociopathic when a person meets five out of the ten traits. Or, only one will suffice if they committed a white-collar crime.

It should be of particular note that intelligence has no bearing on these disorders. In fact, people with these disorders may be highly intelligent. We have some Republicans in the legislature who are highly intelligent, obtaining degrees from Harvard, Yale, and Stanford. In fact there are sociopaths and few psychopaths in the Republican Party.

Existential nihilism is the belief that there is no intrinsic meaning to life and life is insignificant, serving no purpose. Nihilism can be applied to morality in which morality does not exist, but is created by humans. If no morals exist, then lying, falseness, bullying, hatred, and so forth can only exist in moral nihilism reality. Epistemological nihilism essentially believe knowledge does not exist or that knowledge is partially untrue; and that it is impossible for humans to be certain of anything.

Friedrich Nietzsche, a 19th century philosopher originated nihilism, because he saw the world around him had no meaning on a moral basis. He found people who were dishonest and who lost all moral values. It appears the Republican Party has become the Party of Nietzsche.
Nihilism became a prominent role of genocide by Stalin’s Great Purge of Ukrainians, 5 million deaths (1930-1933); Hitler’s Holocaust, 6 million Jews in the 1940s, Armenian genocide, and today’s Ukrainian genocide by President Putin.

Nihilism paves a path for psychopaths to go to work. Who will the Republicans purge when they get their psychopathic autocrat in place?
American nihilism has been reflected in the amount of illicit drug use and drug deaths. Life has no meaning; mental pain is real. Suicidal gun deaths are real with radical nihilism. The Republicans don’t care (further nihilism) and have no policies to make changes. Their only meaning is money and power, and “F” the rest. “It’s a nihilistic psychopathic group!”

Examples of psychopathy can be found in some of the people who stormed the Capital on January 6, 2021. They were following their leader, another psychopath.

Psychopathy can be found in the far-right and alt-right. An extensive research study by Patrick Forscher and Nour Kteily entitled. “A psychological Profile of the Alt-Right” [1] reviewed the psychological profile of alt-right persons. The study used well-established psychological measures and is clear about its limitations. The study compared the attitudes, beliefs, behaviors, and personality traits between alt-right people with people who did not identify as alt-right. The sample size was adequate, included 447 alt-right persons and 382 normal controls as non-alt-right persons.
[For more information on sample size, read the first chapter of the book]

The first personality trait they discovered in alt-right is aggression, both in person and mostly over the internet’s social media. The study found a high level of manipulation and narcissism.

There is a certain amount of hypervigilance or paranoia in that the alt-right, is finding the white race becoming a minority in America.
Alt-righters in the survey scored higher on social dominance orientation (the preference that society maintains social order), right-wing authoritarianism (a preference for strong rulers), and somewhat higher levels of the “dark traits” of personality traits (psychopathy, Machiavellianism, and narcissism.) Machiavellian is defined as cunning, scheming, and unscrupulous, especially in politics. Machiavellianism is a tendency to manipulate other people for one’s own gain.

A large part of the study described dehumanization. Alt-righters were more likely to dehumanize minority groups as well as political groups like government workers or journalists. Dehumanization is defined as the tendency to see others as being less than human. Example of dehumanization is calling a black person a monkey and calling an Asian, a chink.

The study measured their view of who was considered human and subhuman. On a scale between 0 and 100 (non-humans being 0 and humans being 100) the alt-right were asked to score different groups. They found Muslims, Democrats, blacks, Mexicans, Jounalists, Jews and feminists all scored between 50 and 70, and whites scored 91. The alt-right considered all of these other people as subhuman. Europeans, Republicans, and Trump were all over 80. The subhuman groups defined by the alt-right (50s score) were all scored in high 80s and 90s. This is statistically significantly different (1 standard deviation).

Dehumanization can go much further to the extreme. Dehumanization allows harm to other people, because it is easier to inflict pain on people who are considered subhuman or not people. Historically it has been the fuel of mass atrocities and genocide. Associated with dehumanization as noted here is violence and lack of empathy. i.e., traits of psychopathy.

This research also supports contagion crowd theory [Read the book for more details]. The alt-rights’ support for all white organization had a 1.5 standard deviation from the control group who supported different diverse organizations. The alt-right used fear as the mechanism to gain support for their all white organizations by striking fear against blacks, immigrants, Jews, and minorities.

The study also discovered the alt-right were not all white supremacists in the sense of extreme behavior.

In this study the alt-right clustered into two groups [1]:

226 had beliefs that supported populism. These people were more concerned about government’s power. It is populist in the sense that they are opposed to the government and mainstream media’s association with groups like Blick Lives Matter. Their populism an organization that support elevation of whites. This is why Donald Trump became so popular, because he promoted whites. This group is less aggressive and dehumanizing overall

217 skewed more “supremacist,” the researchers found. This group was simply more extreme in many ways as noted predominantly in the study.

President Trump’s followers are nearly all white with 9 out of 10 being white. The published paper by Patrick Forscher and Nour Kteily in the journal Association for Psychological Science in 2020, they found that 10 % of Trump followers are alt-right people. Based on the 50% populist and 50% white supremacist groups noted above, this 10% most likely represents white supremacists and the other 90% populists.
Racism is a large part of their personality trait. Historically, their prejudice is against blacks and Jewish people. White supremacists have angst toward Jewish people and exude hatred in the form of Neo-Nazis. In the Unite the Right rally in Charlottesville, Virginia, they shouted, “Jews will not replace us”. They refer to Jews as a race. Jewish people are not considered a race. They are one of the three Abrahamic religions: Islam, Judaism, and Christianity; Christianity being historically the last of the three. Racism and racial beliefs generally are not based on logic, at least not in the sense of realistic or scientific logic. I call this distorted logic.

Let us be clear about race. The United States Office of Management and Budget (OMB) requires that race data be collected for a minimum of five groups: White, Black or African American, American Indian or Alaska Native, Asian, and Native Hawaiian or Other Pacific Islander. OMB permits the Census Bureau to also use a sixth category – Some Other Race. Respondents may report more than one race.

The world population can be divided into 4 major races, namely white/Caucasian, Mongoloid/Asian, Negroid/Black, and Australoid. This is based on a racial classification.

The hatred, ignorance, and psychopathic traits in the extreme alt-right – white supremacists is extremely difficult to reverse or rehabilitate. As we have found with the study and along with empirical experience, the populists and right-wing group could possibly become rehabilitated. At least ignorance can be reversed with education.

CHANGING THE ATTITUDES OF THE ALT-RIGHT AND PREJUDICED

Helping people move out of the alt-right to the non-alt-right group is challenging. A study has shown that white people who believe they are pure European white and had ancestry testing and found they have Jewish or black genes, denied the findings. They remain believing they are European white. They came up with all types of bogus scientific and other arguments to prove the testing was wrong. Even to the extent that they believed the tests were performed by Jews and therefore wrong.

A few adages apply to this thinking. When a transmission breaks down in a car, it may be stuck in first or low gear until it is fixed. These alt-right people are stuck in their beliefs. An alcoholic cannot stop drinking until they have felt so much pain, hurt and deep depression that forces them to want to change. What is the hurt and pain for these people to change? After a white man or men hunt down a black man, kill him, and get caught, does it take years in prison to rehabilitate?

Another adage is that you can lead a horse to water, but you can’t make him drink. But, run that horse three miles and work up a sweat and the horse will then drink water at the trough. A older disabled white man living alone in an apartment was racist. The family hired a black woman to clean his apartment. Before long, he became friends with her and donated money to help her son go to football camp. The question is why did it take over 50 years for a person to discover love for a person from a different race?

One cannot fight hate with hate. Goodness always prevails. I ask the alt-right, “Do you hate the red-winged black bird in your back yard?” Do you hate the Black bird, Robins and Blue birds in your back yard? I would venture to say that you do not, so why do you hate other human beings of different colors?

The old disabled man had no choice, but to interact with the black housekeeper. He learned she was a kind, loving human being. The white supremacist cannot deny God created diversity on Earth. Accept this fact and learn not to hate.

Part of the problem with white superiority, white populist and white supremacy can also stem from a minority of white privilege.

WHITE PRIVILEGE

Privilege is a special right, advantage, or immunity granted or available only to a particular person or group. In this case it is white skin or white race. One could say this is a birthright with prerogatives that no other race has.

A sociological definition: White privilege, or white skin privilege, is the social privilege that benefits white people over non-white people in some societies, particularly if they are otherwise under the same social, political, or economic circumstances.

With roots in Europeans colonialism and imperialism, and the trans-Atlantic slave trade , white privilege has developed in circumstances that have broadly sought to protect white racial privileges, various national citizenships, and other rights or special benefits.

The trans-atlantic slave trade was trading coffee and sugar from the Americas to Europe in exchange for transporting Africans to America to work as slaves on southern plantations. Approximately 1500 to 1800, over 12 million black slaves were transported from Africa to the southern states.

The trans-Atlantic slave trade was trading coffee and sugar from the Americas to Europe in exchange for bringing Africans to America for labor. The triad of products from Europe to Africa and black people to the Americas, it was labor-trafficking for profit to southern plantation owners. This haunting trafficking has turned into over 400 years of racism and the exaggeration of white privilege.

White privilege denotes both obvious and less obvious passive advantages that white people may not recognize they have, which distinguishes it from overt bias or prejudice. These include cultural affirmations of one’s own worth; presumed greater social status; and freedom to move, buy, work, play, and speak freely. The effects can be seen in professional, educational, and personal contexts.

White privilege usually translates into racism. They can direct it toward blacks, Asians, Muslims, or Jewish people. President Trump and his family are the epitome of white privilege. He and his father would not allow African Americans to rent apartments in their real estate housing in New York City. He had a Muslim ban from immigration to the U.S. during his presidency. I believe he would hate Jewish people also, except his favorite daughter, Ivanka, married a Jewish man.

Racism in America is generally thought of in terms of the advantages of white people over African Americans. However, privilege can also be in the form of law enforcement privileges. Here is a duality example. An African American is Chief of Police in a southern town. In the town, there was a restaurant owned and frequented by white people. The black Chief of Police and a few of his police officers in uniform would have breakfast at the restaurant. They were seated and served immediately before any other person in line to be waited on. The black Chief of Police decided to have lunch one day without his uniform. He waited in line with others and was finally seated. He asked white waitress for sandwich and soup on the menu. The waitress told him that he could not have it. He asked for a hamburger and was told that he could not have it. He asked for the white manager and got told the same. He went home and put his uniform on and came back. He was waited and seated immediately. He got the same white waitress and again he asked for soup and sandwich. He was served immediately. He asked for the same manager and owner to see him. He told the owner what had happened. There was immediate guilt by the waitress and manager along with apologies, but that was not good enough for the owner, because both were terminated. The police uniform had privilege, but blackness did not. This is an invisible privilege white people will recognize.

FEAR CREATED by REPUBLICANS

Fear is an unpleasant emotion caused by the belief that someone or something is dangerous, likely to cause pain, or a threat.
Republicans prey to irrational fears. Calling Democrats socialists causes fear in Americans. This is truly irrational, because by definition, Democrats are not socialists, nor do they try to convince Americans to convert from Capitalism to Socialism.

The Republicans instill fear in Americans over gun control. They make everyone think the federal government is going to take their guns away from them and recite the second amendment repetitively and endlessly. Meanwhile there are mass murders with military style rifles intended for the military and not citizens. And, the ghost guns should be banned, but Republicans will say the government is preventing people from having guns. Yes, and that is the right thing to do.

Republicans create fear concerning vaccines and vaccinations. They fear the federal government will mandate COVID vaccination, yet all these people have been vaccinated for small pox and polio, which was mandated by the government decades ago. And, guess what? No more polio or small pox. Measles and mumps would also be eradicated if no exception were allowed. Instilling fear is none factual.

Republicans have a fear of race and ethnic groups. They hate Hispanic, Latino, and Muslim immigrants and do everything in their power to keep them out of the U.S. This is known as Xenophobia, the dislike, prejudice, or hatred toward or against people of other countries and their inhabitants. President Trump said, “We must fear the supposed Muslim and Latino hordes, who threaten to wipe out Anglo-European culture and displace white babies with their own.”

Republicans fear Sex and Gender: They fear LGBTQIPA identities. Yes, that stands for lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, questioning, intersexual, and pansexual. The real concern is regarding the “questioning,” because their little Johnny or Susie may be questioning their gender. Republicans may not understand a few things so let us be clear:

Sex is defined as (chiefly with reference to people) sexual activity, including specifically sexual intercourse. Also defined as (chiefly with reference to people) sexual activity, including specifically sexual intercourse.

Gender is defined as either of the two sexes (male and female), especially when considered with reference to social and cultural differences rather than biological ones. The term is also used more broadly to denote a range of identities that do not correspond to established ideas of male and female

Male is defined as denoting the sex that produces small, typically motile gametes, especially spermatozoa, with which a female may be fertilized or inseminated to produce offspring. Biologically it has XY chromosomes.

Female is defined as denoting the sex that can bear offspring or produce eggs, distinguished biologically by the production of gametes (ova) which can be fertilized by male gametes. Biologically a female has xx chromosomes.

Intersexual is defined as a human biologically having both male and female sex organs (penis and ovaries).

Woman is defined as an adult female human being. At the U.S. Senate confirmation of Judge Ketanji Brown Jackson perceived as a liberal, Republican conservative Senator Blackburn from Mississippi asked her to define a woman, which was obvious entrapment.

Man is defined as an adult male. It can also be used as a human being of either sex; a person.

Intersexual is defined as relating to or having the condition of being intermediate between male and female. This is a medical condition such as Klinefelter Syndrome, which is a genetic condition where males have and extra x chromosome (XXY chromosome). There is also another medical condition is ovotesticular disorder (sometimes also called true hermaphroditism), an individual has both ovarian and testicular tissue. The ovarian and testicular tissue may be separate, or the two may be combined in what is called an ovotestis. This is due to genetic abnormalities

Pansexual is sexual attraction, romantic love, or emotional attraction toward people of any sex or gender identity. Pansexual people may refer to themselves as gender-blind, asserting that gender and sex are insignificant or irrelevant in determining whether they will be sexually attracted to others.

Asexual is the lack of sexual attraction to anyone, or low or absent interest in sexual activity. Examples of asexual or nonsexual are Buddhist Monks, Catholic Nuns, Catholic Priest (well, most Catholic Priests).

REPUBLICAN LAWS AGAINNST LGBTQ: Following from The Washington Post

Nationwide, GOP lawmakers have filed nearly 200 state bills this year that seek to erode protections for transgender and gay youth or restrict discussion of LGBTQ topics in public schools.

The explosion of legislation is in part the culmination of efforts by a trio of conservative organizations, which are helping state legislators write and promote the bills. One of the most active — the Alliance Defending Freedom — has a decades-long history of fighting LGBTQ rights, including in battles to preserve state laws criminalizing consensual sex between gay adults, court records show. TO READ MORE: https://www.washingtonpost.com/politics/

2022/03/25/lgbtq-rights-gop-bills-dont-say-gay/

Perhaps, the Republicans should educate themselves about sex and gender so they don’t have to needlessly devout their brains with fear. It seems that the Alliance Defending Freedom should practice that which their name stands for-freedom, the right to choose their gender and sex. Coming from the Bible, “God Loves all Creatures!”

Fear of Journalists: Remember President Trump would denigrate the press and yell obscene remarks to them. He slandered journalists and made every attempt to diminish media, except Fox Cable News and Twitter. He wanted to eliminate The Washington Post and New York Times as well as CNN and MSNBC. Why? Because they told the truth and nothing from Trump is true or factual. Autocrats want to freakishly control news media to create and promote propaganda (lies).

For 35 years the Commission on Presidential Debates has held national TV debates with presidential candidates of both parties. On April 14, 2022, the republican National Committee decided to change that for the Republican presidential debates in 2024. Apparently the Republican conservatives have complained to the Commission for the past decade that the debates were directed in favor of Democrats. How do they come up with that complaint when the worst president in the U.S. called other candidate names with character assassinations to other decent Republican candidates, and managed to become president? In the debate with Joe Biden, Mr. Biden presented facts and Trump went on to bully. The GOP does not want the commission to proceed with the current polices or procedures. What this means is that before the commission existed, when the two parties or campaigns had to negotiate directly and agree on terms, or no debates would take place.

The R.N.C. is dictating how to place everything in their favor or else they will not participate, even though all debates have been nonpartisan. Their proposal boils down to one or more of the following: they don’t have good candidates or polices, their candidates are right-wing conservatives who cannot debate facts, the candidate will only bully and embarrass the GOP, or who knows. Nevertheless, this reaction is fear, bordering on paranoia.
Election after election, Republicans have based their core political appeal on fear. This is another example of irrational fear. We also have fear, but it’s rational and it is a fear of losing democracy. Democracy is a system of government by the entire population or all the eligible members of a state, typically through elected representatives. The Republican Party wants to dominate voting and autocratically run the government. This is a loss of democracy, because now only a segment of the Population is running the government and not the whole. Dominant white male Republicans are ruling women without their rights. Large Republican businesses are ruling Republican lawmakers. Republican businesses are causing inflation to harm President Biden with their price gauging and taking advantage of the American people. Republican governor of Texas, Greg Abbot has held-up trucks at the U.S. – Mexican border purposely to raise costs and intentionally cause added inflation.

In summary Republicans love fearmongering. I am sure we did not cover all of the fears, but we attempted to cover most.

Hypocrisy runs deep in the Republican Party. Hypocrisy is professing publically beliefs or feelings of having moral, ethical, principles, or religious values and beliefs that one does not follow or possess. An example is a good evangelical Cristian who storms the Capital and injures a Capital police officer. A person can also know the truth or facts, but professes false, untrue, or none factual information, i.e. misinformation. An example is Minority Leader Kevin McCarthy had a phone call after January 6, 2021 Capital insurrection suggesting President Trump should resign, but then tells the Republican Party and Americans that no such conversation took place. Fear emotions play a role in hypocrisy. Knowing and doing the right thing allows for nefarious behavior to cause the person to lie and align with the negative power.

PARANOID and DELUTIONAL DISORDERS in the REPUBLICAN PARTY

Paranoia is the irrational and persistent feeling that people are ‘out to get you’ or that you are the subject of persistent, intrusive attention by others. This unfounded mistrust of others can make it difficult for a person with paranoia to function socially or have close relationships.

Paranoia can also be thinking and feeling like being threatened in some way, even if there is no evidence, or very little evidence for this. Paranoid thoughts can also be described as delusions. There are lots of different kinds of threats one might be scared and worried about.

A good example pertaining to right-wing people is the belief the government, an organization, or an individual is spying on or following the person(s).

Paranoia involves symptoms between intense anxious or fearful feelings and delusions; and, thoughts often related to persecution, threat, or conspiracy. Paranoia occurs in many mental disorders, but is most often present in psychotic disorders. Delusions, hallucinations, and disengagement of speech are all a part of psychosis.

Signs and symptoms of paranoia vary. Some signs and symptoms observable in the conservative right and right-wing Republicans are: difficulty trusting and finding relationships with others (e.g., Democrats, liberals, intellectuals, LGBTQ); suspicion of motives (journalists, scientists, some media, and people outside their community or church); considering the world to be a place of constant threat; being hostile, aggressive, or argumentative; and, belief in unfounded conspiracy theories.

In the research study on the alt-right by Patrick Forscher and Nour Kteily noted earlier, it is surprising they did not find paranoia in the alt-right. They probably did not address it.

The epitome of paranoia IS those White people who believe in “White Replacement Theory” or “The Great Replacement Theory”. Their paranoia is delusional. These White people believe Jews have the power to control White European people and that Jews will replace them. The replacement theory has different purposes. It also creates the idea that immigrants are replacing White people. It proposes that minority groups, such as black and Hispanic are replacing White people. Since White people are having fewer babies, this allows minorities to propagate and take over the U.S. The replacement theory is one adopted by white supremacists and white nationalists. Psychopathy is also involved, especially with mass killings of black people and Jewish people.

In researching the issue of Republican paranoia, I am not alone. In 1964, an American historian, Richard J. Hofstadter, published an article in Harper’s Magazine entitled, “The Paranoid Style in American Politics”. Hofstadter used the term paranoid pejoratively, but it’s true. His Harper’s article and finally his book was at the time Republican Senator Barry Goldwater was running for president. Senator Goldwater was a conservative right-wing Republican whose political positions included anti-communism, an emphasis on total victory in war and opposition to high taxes and government spending. He often criticized the politics of some of his more moderate Republicans, including President Dwight D. Eisenhower. He, like Republican Joseph McCarthy were paranoid over communism and intellectuals in the United States. President Richard Nixon was also paranoid over intellectuals. Hofstadter’s approach was later applied to the rise of new right-wing groups, including the Christian Right and the Patriot Movement [1,2].

Delusional Disorder of Republicans
Delusions are prominent part of paranoia, but there is also a delusional disorder. The definition of delusional is characterized by or holding idiosyncratic beliefs or impressions that are contradicted by reality or rational argument, typically as a symptom of mental disorder. Delusions are separate from hallucinations. Hallucinations are related to the senses such as seeing, hearing, or feeling things that are not really there.

Delusional disorder, previously called paranoid disorder, is a type of serious mental illness called a psychotic disorder. People who have it can’t tell what’s real from what is imagined. Delusions are the main symptom of delusional disorder. They’re unshakable beliefs in something that isn’t true or based on reality

An example of a Republican with a delusional disorder is Marjorie Taylor Greene. She has said the worst wildfire in California history was caused by a space laser that might have been funded by “Rothschild Inc.” Supposedly, the Clintons had John F. Kennedy Jr. killed. She has said that the former Democratic National Committee staffer Seth Rich was murdered by MS-13, which Greene described as “the kind of henchmen of the Obama administration”. It is unbelievable that she won support from the Republicans to obtain a seat in Congress. Unfortunately, the whole Republican QAnon crowd is with her. We describe this as mass delusional crowd theory.

January 6, 2022 was the one year anniversary of the attack (attempted coup) on the U.S. Capitol that disrupted a joint session of the U.S. Congress in the process of affirming the presidential election results for President Biden. In one year there have been several criminal arrest and continued investigations by the U.S. Attorney’s Office for the District of Columbia and the FBI’s Washington Field Office, after injuries to Capital police and over a million dollars damage to the capital. The Republican Party and the Republican National Committee called the attack a “legitimate political discourse,” and rebuked two decent Republican Representatives, Liz Cheney of Wyoming and Adam Kinzinger of Illinois for serving on the House investigation of the assault on the Capital. This is a good example where the leaders of the Republican National Committee suffer from delusional disorder

SUMMARY:

The meaning of democracy and freedom has become a nihilistic philosophy of the Republican Party. This nihilism has been for some decades, but mushroomed to radical nihilism in 2016.

We have attempted to research the cause or etiology of why the Republican Party has become toxic. Using analytic methods with factual observations, there is an answer-psychosocial dysfunction. Utilizing psychological factual information, it was found (by behavior observations) mental health issues within the Republican Party, legislature and the Republican National Committee.
